Social Media Stress
Ever had this feeling of getting sick and tired from scrolling through your feeds on your social media accounts or not being able to see much on the newsfeed? Or even the frustration at times of not being able to log in and send messages to your loved ones using apps like Instagram and Facebook because of their unnecessary bullshit errors (like the shutdown error that happened last October 5, 2021)?
During these times of COVID, we’ve mostly held on to social media platforms to communicate with our loved ones especially those who are far away (or even worlds away from us). Many users worldwide were affected by the 6-hour shutdown that took place last year – to me, it caused a lot of frustration as I needed to communicate with my girlfriend and other friends through our rp accounts, both IG and FB. It was considered to be a stressful one for us as we had no other means of communication except social media.
I call this “social media stress” – as it caused me a lot to worry about what happened to my account that I’ve been locked out of it (Without social media informing us ahead of time what have really happened and why they feel the need to do that). Stress because it caused a lot of anxiety to the point I lacked sleep from worrying about the possibility of it happening again or not being able to talk to them anymore just because of the shutdown?
The shutdown stressed me out to the point of having anxieties and fear of missing out or not being able to communicate with them anymore and having it happen again every year (which is one thing I’d hate).
In short, the shutdown error last year caused a lot of stress and trauma to me as a social media user which affected not just my mental health but my overall health as well.
